What’s The Rush?

We’re often so busy doing what we believe needs to get done we forget how to sit still and enjoy the silence.

During our busy day, in the background of our lives, the television is blaring, freeway traffic rides your tail, the kids are fighting and screaming, not to mention the incessant chatter in your mind. Have you thought about how much noise distracts us from the healing benefits of silence?

Many people are uncomfortable with silence because:

  1. They have to sit with themselves who they may not like very much.
  2. They are so used to “doing” with their brains hard-wired for action, they can’t sit still for more than three minutes at a time.
  3. Keeping busy is a way to escape uncomfortable thoughts and feelings they don’t want to deal with or experience on any level. In a sense, they are running from themselves.

In all truth, silence quiets the mind. We feel relaxed, calm, and able to handle stressful situations better. There are many ways to engage with silence.

Go for a walk.

Meditate.

Practice prayer or yoga.

Listen to relaxing music.

Journal.

Explore nature.

The way in which you choose to spend time in silence is the way you learn to know yourself, clear negative thoughts, and find clarity and knowledge from within.

The power of silence is grounding, it energizes you, and clears unwanted clutter from your mind. Then when it comes time to“do”, we can do so with energy, enthusiasm, and joy.

Find the way that works best for you. There is no right or wrong way to nurture your soul. Spend time with yourself, open your heart and listen to its song.

I hope you enjoyed this article. I’ve included a Power of Silence Meditation for your enjoyment. Drop what your doing, close your eyes and listen to the music.
