The Pan-American Highway or Bust?
How many of you reading this story right now would be willing to pack up your belongings, quit your job, sell your home, and say goodbye to friends and family for, oh, let’s say, a year? I know a large group of people who do this all the time, primarily millennials, a few retirees, and anyone with an adventurous spirit.
Although my husband Raul and I are not millennials, we are a part of this way of life, and I’ll tell you why.
In every major country in the world, some people want to get off the grid, take to the highways and explore different countries and cultures. These brave, adventurous souls are called Overlanders, and they don’t use the typical camper or mobile home for their travels. Instead, they drive any 4x4 vehicle overland and are fully self-sustainable. They park anywhere, explore rugged dirt roads, and require no hookups.
Each vehicle has either a rooftop tent or a built-in bed with solar panels on the roof to power batteries inside. This means electrical outlets, the water pump, heater, refrigerator, and a charging station for every electrical gadget under the sun.
