The Art of Storytelling
I write on the Vocal Media platform besides Medium. There are a great group of writers over there to whom I’ve joined in on in collaboration with the Vocal Writer’s Self Help Guide; a series of articles related to all aspects of writing which will eventually be made into a book.
My topic is the art of storytelling. In my article, I listed five main points when writing or verbally telling stories that I think are important to every writer.
The Elements of Story
Characters- Whether real or fictitious you need to create characters with vivid detail so the reader/listener feels as if the character is sitting next to them. Do they have fears? What special talents do they have or acquire? Are they quirky? How will your reader relate to the character on an emotional level? Often enough that makes or breaks the story.
Beginning, Middle, and End- Every story needs these elements. In the beginning, perhaps the characters and plot are introduced while working up to the middle when the characters are suddenly faced with conflict or challenge? And in the end, everything changes. Conflicts are resolved and characters face personal growth, they witness new discoveries about themselves or the world they live in.
