Poetry From the Heart

As a writer on both Vocal and Medium, I can’t tell you how much outstanding poetry I’ve read since I joined both platforms. Poets, here and there, you are a true inspiration and because of that I’ve decided to try writing poetry myself and I’d like to tell you why.

I believe poetry is a means to deep transformational healing. In order to write poetry, the writer must have the ability to look deep within their heart and soul, connect with those feelings buried deep within, and transform them into inspirational prose through the written word. Not everyone has the ability to do this and I’m not sure I do either but I’m willing to give it a try because my path is that of the healer. I’m healing myself in this lifetime and I strongly believe as a writer, poetry will help me get in touch with the healing process.

Some of it will be sad as we all have our demons to deal with. Personally, I don’t think my demons like me very much but I have a feeling they love me or why else would they persist? Demons don’t nudge in sweet loving ways, they pack you with a punch when you least expect it.

Here is my first poem, a little sad but over time they will become more cheerful and I hope, insightful as I go. Thank you for reading my words.

Reconciliations

There was a time I lay in the dark, surrounded by fear.

The sounds I heard, harsh whisperings in my ear.

Although terrified at what I felt and heard, I stayed the course,

until the last word.

Years have passed, I hear you no more,

I have changed, I’m stronger you see,

your words don’t hurt me.

Deep inside lives a girl who is free.

She’s one with the wind and the trees.

Someday, I’ll be that girl, wild and carefree,

whose heart and soul will suffer no more.

I’ll wait for the day to come when I step through that open door.
