It’s Okay To Get 100 Followers in a Week But Do It With Heart
We’re in This Together
I joined Medium two weeks ago when I saw an invitation to write for Mindful Mental Health by Caitlin McColl who is also a Vocal member as I am. Working on both platforms seemed too much for me but then I started to poke around Medium, I learned what to do, how to maneuver the sight, and here I am.
As a new Medium subscriber, apparently, the next step is to get one hundred followers as fast as I can in order to get paid. There are tons of healthy informative articles out there on how to find those one hundred all within a month. If you’re really in a hurry, there are just as many articles on how to reach that hundred mark within a week.
You follow me and I’ll follow you. These articles are written by people who want followers, of course, but they also want to reach out and lend a hand to new Medium Members, like themselves, or not but who want followers too, and I get this.
When I started on Vocal a thrill of excitement coursed through my body when I thought, finally, I can make some money writing and online. Then reality hit. Both you and I know on any of these writing platforms we’re not going to become millionaires but you know what I’ve discovered that’s even more important than making the almighty $1? I’ve made friends, I engage with fellow writers who have incredible talent and are so helpful, and most of all, I write every single day.
When we think about getting those hundred followers, let’s remember we’re all in this together as writers and creators. Sure we need a hundred followers and honestly, if I received twenty followers after writing this article I’d be thrilled but to me, and hopefully to you too, writing and engaging with fellow writers, reading their work, and leaving real comments is more important than reaching the one hundred followers mark in a week.
Some readers skim over other writers’ work because 1.) They don’ have time to read the entire piece. 2.) One hundred followers are their main drive so clap and be done with it. 3.) With so much reading to do while writing, it quickly becomes overwhelming.
I admit when I look at the new posts list from the people I follow my eyes bulge. There’s a lot of reading ahead and that’s okay. Kudos to those writers because they are working just as hard as I am. Take the time to really read their work. Clap as many times as you want and comment. Engage with the writer wholeheartedly from one creator to another.
One hundred followers are nice but so is developing healthy communication with fellow writers, and meaningful engagement. Besides the hundred followers, let’s not forget everyone else is working just as hard as you. Let’s support each other on this writing adventure of our lives but let’s do it with heart.
